The
Weasley Family
"All the Weasleys
have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford."
-- Draco Malfoy
"Why is everything
I own rubbish?"
-- Ron Weasley
The Weasleys
live in The
Burrow, a ramshackle house of four or five stories near the village
of Ottery
St. Catchpole. All of the Weasleys have bright red hair. The family
is relatively poor, but they still manage to send all their kids to Hogwarts.
They are considered to be one of the prominent Wizarding families, although
their lack of money and acceptance of non-pureblood wizards and even Muggles
makes people like the Malfoys look down on them.
The Weasley
family consists of:
-
Other
relatives:
-
Bilius
- Uncle, supposedly had once seen a Grim
and died within twenty-four hours (PA
-
Grandfather
- had owned the old and battered wizard
chess set that Ron now uses (SS
-
cousin
of Mrs. Weasley - this poor fellow isn't spoken of in the Weasley family,
as he turned out to be an accountant (SS
-
other Weasley
cousin
-
Owls:
-
Errol
- aged and decrepit, Errol is a family owl. He barely survives some of
his deliveries, but he's still hanging in there.
-
Hermes
- This owl belongs specifically to Percy.
-
Pigwidgeon
- Known not-so-affectionately as "Pig," this tiny brown owl belongs to
Ron.

The
"Weasley Cousin"
-
Rowling had created
the character of a female cousin to the Weasleys for book four. However,
that character disappeared in rewrites. Here's what Rowling has to say
(Nr) about the Weasley cousin:
Q: Last time
we spoke you said there’d be a Weasley cousin. It didn’t appear. You’ve
deceived me!
A: It got
pulled. Sorry about that. What happened on Book Four, and one of the reasons
why it was easily the most difficult to write, which had absolutely nothing
to do with Harry being famous or me being famous, was that for the first
time my plan fell down. I got halfway through and realised there was a
huge gaping plot hole. The two ends just didn’t meet. It was entirely my
own fault: I should have had the sense to go through it very carefully
before I started writing. So I had to do an enormous amount of unpicking
and in the process I’m afraid the Weasley cousin disappeared.
Q: Will we
see her again?
A: Possibly.
I really like her as a character but it’s quite a complex plot I’m dealing
with so I’m not sure that she’ll fit anywhere else. She’ll be the "character
that might have been."

calculating
the ages of the Weasley children [paraphrased from
a post on HPfGU by Michelle]
-
In PA it's stated
that Gryffindor haven't won the Quidditch cup for 7 years. It is also stated
(in either PA or PS can't remember which) that they haven't won a the cup
since Charlie was Seeker. In PA, Ron has already been at hogwarts for 2
years so 7-2 =5, so that's 5 years between Charlie leaving Hogwarts and
Ron starting Hogwarts. Add on the severn years you spend at Hogwarts 7
+5 =12 so you get 12 years between Charlie starting at Hogwarts and Ron
starting at Hogwarts. That's 12 years between Charlie and Ron. Since we
know that Ron was born in March 1980, Charlie must have been born in 1968
or 1969. Now the twins are two school years above Ron, and Percy is two
school years above the twins. That's roughly 4 years between Percy and
Ron and 12- 4 = 8 years between Charlie and Percy (roughly: could be nearer
7 or 9 as we're using schools years).
