  • 1927 • Born in Little Hangleton. Voldemort’s mother live just long enough to name him.  Tom Marvolo Riddle is raised in a Muggle orphanage.
  • 1938 • Began his first year at Hogwarts School and is sorted into Slytherin. He heard of the Chamber of Secrets and began to learn all he could about it. He had to return to the Muggle orphanage during school breaks. Outwardly he was a model student, but he secretly studied Dark Arts.
  • ???? • Date unknown. Tom created a new name for himself, rearranging the letters of his name to spell, “I AM LORD VOLDEMORT”. He used the name among his most intimate friends at Hogwarts and wanted it, one day, to be a name wizards will fear to speak.
  • 1941 • September - Began fifth year at Hogwarts. Tom opened the Chamber of Secrets and released the basilisk into the school. Several students were injured and one was killed.
  • June 13, 1942 - He staged the capture of Hagrid and Aragog, making it seem they were responsible for the attacks. He received a trophy for Special Services to the school. Tom recorded the “memory” of himself in a diary to lead another to finish the work of ridding the school of the “those unworthy to study magic”.
  • 1944 • Summer. Tom murdered his grandparents and father in their home in Little Hangleton.
    • September. Began his seventh year at Hogwarts.  Tom is Prefect, Head Boy and received a Medal for Magical Merit.
  • 1945 • June. Left Hogwarts and disappeared. Tom traveled widely and sank even more deeply into the dark arts in his quest for immortality and power. He underwent many dangerous magical transformations and consorted with those considered the “worst” of the wizarding world.
  • c. 1970 • Tom returned, now openly calling himself Lord Voldemort, he is so changed that few realized he is Tom Marvolo Riddle.
  • 1970”s • Lord Voldemort began to gather followers and gain power. The Death Eaters use the Unforgivable Curses and the years of his ascent to power are marked by disappearances, deaths, torture, terror and atrocities in both the wizarding and Muggle worlds. The Death Eaters wore the Dark Mark and sent that sign into the air where they had killed.
  • 1979 • Voldemort gained a spy in Peter Pettigrew who was involved with those working against Voldemort with Albus Dumbledore.
  • 1981 • Voldemort had targeted the Potters but they learned of this from a spy in Voldemort’s following and went into hiding.
    • October 31. When Pettigrew was made “secret keeper” he betrayed the Potters. On his information, Voldemort went to their home; he killed James and then Lily when she tried to protect her son. When he attempted to kill baby Harry the spell rebounded and he was “ripped” from his body and fled far from human society and the Aurors. He waited for his Death Eaters to find and restore him,
  • 1991 • Professor Quirrell met Voldemort in the forest and was bent to his will.
    • July 31.Influenced Quirrell to try to steal the Sorcerer’s Stone from a vault in Gringott’s Bank and then they followed the Stone to Hogwarts School.
    • October 31. Voldemort and Quirrell send a Mountain Troll into Hogwarts to create a diversion while they tried, unsuccessfully, to take the Stone.
  • 1992 • June. Voldemort and Quirrell won past the enchantments protecting the Stone but Harry Potter prevented them from getting it from the mirror of Erised and when Albus Dumbledore arrived, Voldemort fled back to the forest in Albania, leaving Quirrell to die.
    • August. Lucius Malfoy slipped Tom’s diary into a book purchased for Ginny Weasley.
    • September. The “memory” of Tom Marvolo Riddle is able to use Ginny, without her knowledge, to open the Chamber of Secrets.
    • October 31. Mrs. Norris, Filch’s cat, is the first victim petrified by the basilisk. Several more students were injured in the following months. Tom learned of Harry Potter and his encounter with Lord Voldemort and wanted to discover how Harry survived the curse that should have killed him and instead nearly destroyed Voldemort.
    • June. Tom lured Harry to the Chamber and challenged him but was defeated when Harry destroyed the diary.
  • 1994 • Summer. Peter Pettigrew (Scabbers/Wormtail) was forced out of hiding and found Voldemort in Albania. Wormtail met Bertha Jorkins and from her, using a powerful memory charm, Voldemort gained information to form a new plan to return to his body with the assistance of Wormtail and Bartemius Crouch Jr. Voldemort killed Bertha Jorkins
    • August Voldemort, Wormtail and Nagini used the old “Riddle House” in Little Hangleton where they encountered and killed Frank Bryce.
    • September. Bartemius Crouch Jr., impersonating Professor Mad-Eye Moody, successfully entered Harry Potter in the Triwizard tournament.
1995 • June 24. Voldemort captured Harry and Cedric Diggory when, as they touched the Tournament Cup together they were taken to the churchyard at Little Hangleton. Wormtail killed Cedric. Voldemort used an “old piece of Dark Magic” and, restored to his body he summoned the Death Eaters to him and encircled by them challenged Harry to a Wizard Duel. His plans are thwarted when their wands, being “brothers” wouldn’t work properly against each other. The “shadows” of those Voldemort had most recently killed were forced from his wand and they support Harry and assisted his escape. Restored to his body and surrounded by his Death Eaters, Voldemort had, once again, failed to destroy Harry Potter.
