"Lucius" comes from Lucifer, a name for the Devil; Lucifer means "light bearer" in Latin. "Draco" is Latin for "dragon" "Narcissa" is the feminine form of the name Narcissus of Greek mythology. Narcissus fell in love with his own reflection and died gazing at himself. In one of Harry's dreams, he rides an eagle owl that transforms into Voldemort. The Malfoys use an eagle owl to deliver mail to Draco at school. |

The Malfoy family is an old and aristocratic wizarding family. They live in Malfoy Manor, a large house which has been in the family for generations. The Malfoys are extremely wealthy. All of the Malfoys have always been in the Slytherin house at Hogwarts.

Eater, a Voldemort supporter, Lucius revived his old allegiences when
Voldemort rose to power once again (GF). He has a variety of illegal Dark
Arts objects and artifacts hidden in his mansion, some in a secret
chamber under the dining room floor (CS4). He is strongly against admitting
non-pureblood witches and wizards into Hogwarts and he uses his influence
(and money) to try to force changes there. He considers Dumbledore to be
a very poor headmaster and even succeeded in getting him temporarily removed
from that position (CS14). The Malfoys had a house-elf named Dobby
for many years but Lucius inadvertantly released him (CS18). Lucius Malfoy
has used his position in the Wizarding community and well-placed donations
and contributions to gain considerable power in the current Ministry
of Magic. Fudge acquiesces to Lucius, impressed with the "purity" of
his Wizarding blood and sizable sums of Galleons. Lucius Malfoy serves
on the Committee for the Disposal of Dangerous Creatures.
Narcissa

Lucius' wife
and Draco's mother; blonde, with a look on her face as if there were something
smelly under her nose (GF8). Draco wanted to go to Durmstrang instead of
Hogwarts, but Narcissa didn't want him going to school so far away from
home (GF11). Narcissa is presumably the source of the sweets and cakes
Draco has delivered to him daily from home while at Hogwarts (GF13).
