Wizarding World
Albus Dumbledore

"Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts! Before we begin our banquet, I would like to say a few words. And here they are: Nitwit! Blubber! Oddment! Tweak! Thank you."
     -- Albus Dumbledore

"Mad? He's a genius! Best wizard in the world! But he is a bit mad, yes."
     -- Percy Weasley

Widely considered to be the greatest wizard of the current age, Dumbledore is the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Famous for defeating the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1945, for discovering the twelve uses of dragon's blood, and for his work on alchemy with his friend Nicolas Flamel. (from Famous Wizard card, SS6)

Dumbledore was asked to be Minister of Magic (sometime after 1971 (SS5)) but turned it down, so Fudge took that position. Fudge now sends daily owls to Dumbledore asking his advice (SS5).

Dumbledore is the one wizard whom Voldemort fears. His presence at Hogwarts made the school a safe haven during the 1970s; Voldemort never tried to take the school. Dumbledore worked tirelessly to defeat Voldemort during those terrible years and now that Voldemort has risen again, Dumbledore is calling together his supporters to fight the Dark Lord (GF36).

"He was tall, thin, and very old, judging by the silver of his hair and beard, which were both long enough to tuck into his belt. He was wearing long robes, a purple cloak that swept the ground, and high-heeled, buckled boots. His blue eyes were light, bright, and sparkling behind half-moon spectacles and his nose was very long and crooked, as though it had been broken at least twice." (SS1)
