The Wizarding World
The Diggory Family

"Diggory got the Snitch. Just after you fell. He didn't realize what had happened. When he looked back and saw you on the ground, he tried to call it off. Wanted a rematch. But they won fair and square... even Wood admits it.
    -- George Weasley

The Diggorys are a Wizarding family which lives near Ottery St. Catchpole, the village near which the Burrow is located. Both Arthur Weasley and Amos Diggory work for the Ministry of Magic, although in different departments.

Amos Diggory
Ministry Official, works for the Department For The Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. Amos is a ruddy-faced wizard with a scrubby brown beard. He takes a great deal of pride in his son, Cedric, even to the point of being somewhat rude about it to Harry. Other than that, Amos is a genial man who is on friendly terms with Arthur and Molly Weasly, although he didn't recognize the Weasley children, so the two families are apparently not close friends. When in his official capacity, however, he can be very stern and perhaps even go overboard a little. His tone with Winky when he interrogates her is very severe; he calls her "elf" instead of using her name. When Cedric was killed, Amos was overcome and couldn't even talk with Harry, but cried through the entire interview. His wife spoke gently to Harry, however, and make it clear that they don't blame him.

Cedric Diggory
(b.1977 - d.1995)
Cedric Diggory was an extremely handsome boy with gray eyes. He is quite tall and the quiet type. In 1993, when he was a Fifth Year, he took over as Captain and Seeker of the Hufflepuff House Quidditch team at Hogwarts. He was a very good student and a prefect.

Cedric was selected by the Goblet of Fire to represent Hogwarts in the Triwizard Tournament, which indicates that he was also well on his way to becoming a powerful wizard. However, he was killed by Wormtail on Voldemort's command. After his death, Dumbledore described him this way: "Cedric was a person who exemplified many of the qualities that distinguish Hufflepuff house. He was a good and loyal friend, a hard worker, he valued fair play. His death has affected you all, whether you knew him well or not."

Cedric entered Hogwarts in 1988. He was sorted into Hufflepuff. In 1994, he took Cho Chang to the Yule Ball and they were romantically involved until his death. Dumbledore eulogized Cedric at the Leaving Feast:

"Cedric was a person who exemplified many of the qualities that distinguish Hufflepuff house. He was a good and loyal friend, a hard worker, he valued fair play. His death has affected you all, whether you knew him well or not. I think that you have the right, therefore, to know exactly how it came about. Cedric Diggory was murdered by Lord Voldemort. It is my belief, however, that the truth is generally preferable to lies, and that any attempt to pretend that Cedric died as the result of an accident, or some sort of blunder of his own, is an insult to his memory..."

"Remember Cedric. Remember, if the time should come when you have to make a choice between what is right and what is easy, remember what happened to a boy who was good, and kind, and brave, because he strayed across the path of Lord Voldemort. Remember Cedric Diggory." (GF37)

Mrs. Diggory
Mrs. Diggory is Cedric Diggory's mother. She is not as emotional as her husband. When Cedric died, she was at Hogwarts and met with Sprout, the head of Hufflepuff House, Dumbledore, and then Harry. She thanked Harry for bringing Cedric's body back and refused to take the Triwizard prize, a bag of gold.
