"Great Blue"
This soft pastel painting was
done from a photo I took of a Great Blue I saw on the shores of Strawberry
Lake, north of Ann Arbor, MI. A friend and I were out cruising on the lake
in a pontoon boat when we spotted him on an unpopulated shoreline. It reminded
me of the days we spent as kids at the cottage exploring the shores and
islands of Anchor Bay on Lake St. Clair. We had a favorite
spot along the shoreline where a little pond had formed and where a Great
Blue Heron would come each evening and morning to hunt for frogs and crawfish.
We would too! We felt we were just as much a part of nature as "The
