"Gene's Boat"
This painting may appear
quite simple to the casual observer but it's really not. This isn't
just any old boat, it's Gene's boat--the boat that's used to tie the sail
boat race buoys every Tuesday and Sunday, the boat you can bomb around
in and not worry if you get it dirty, the boat that's allowed to sink when
Gene goes away on vacation. I found this out after thoughtfully and
laboriously bailing it out one day only to be told by Gene when he came
home, that it really wasn't necessary. And this lake is not just
any lake. It's the lake I lived on in Southwest Michigan (Austin
Lake) and the yard is my own. I painted this picture on location
after I broke my ankle water skiing. I observed that little old jalopy
of a boat perform many a function and provide lots of laughs too!
