"Fire Talk Story"
This painting was inspired by all the nights I watched my German Shepherd Dog by the fires I had in a clearing at the edge of my woods.  "Leben" (meaning "lively" in German) was fascinated by fire and would dance all night, if you let him, catching the sparks that flew in the sky.  My friend shared the same enchantment, diligently adding and moving the wood to keep the fire alive and strong.  Here they are at one of these fires in complete silence, fully absorbed in its ever changing, illuminating  presence, unexpected pops, cracks, and sizzles, along with its unique, pleasant aroma. They are humbled in its presence and honor its awesome power, warmth, and beauty. The two represent the symbiotic relationship man and dog have shared for eons of time, both in need of this ancient element for warmth and light.  Only man and the powers of heaven can provide it, but he remains hopelessly in danger of those that lurk in the night if not for the dog and his keen sense of smell and hearing to sound an alarm.  Neither exists well alone.  I could have called this painting "The Archers" because both Leben and my friend were born under the zodiac fire sign of Sagittarius, nicknamed the Archer - always pointing his arrows towards a higher authority of which fire is one.   -Suzanne

 Big Ol' Fire
by Diamond Rio

One of these days you'll turn around
And wanna get out of this someday town
Well people gonna laugh,
You know what they'll say
You're never gonna get away

Well there'll be fear and there'll be doubt
But they're just things that'll slow you down
Just put ‘em all in a great big pile
And stand back

And burn, baby like a big ol' fire
Build it up with your one desire
And one of these days
You just might change their minds
Shine the light, blind ‘em by
A big ol' fire
A big ol' fire

And one of these days you'll find someone
Who lights you up like the rising sun
But he's been hurt and he won't feel
Like handing you a heart of steel
Well don't you run now just you stay
‘Cause you're the one that can melt away
The loneliness down in his heart
Just take him in your arms

And burn baby, like a big ol' fire
Build it up with your one desire
And one of these days
You just might find the love
You're dreaming of,
Risin' up a big ol' fire

And when you get to where you're goin'
All you'll leave behind is ashes smolderin'
When you find the love you've always wanted
Never let it die

And burn, baby like a big ol' fire
Build it up with your one desire
And one of these days
You just might change their minds
Shine the light, blind 'em by
A big ol' fire
