Story
This is the first in
a series of "Birds of Childhood" paintings I am working
on. They
are the birds I grew up with as a child living near the fields, streams,
and lakes of Michigan.
An avid bird watcher since age 10, I can vividly recall
the cedar waxwings lighting
up our cherry tree during springtime. I was
always startled when
they came as their colors were so soft and unusual.

up view in part)
Story
As a child, I always looked for bluebirds,
but unfortunately, during the severe
winters of the early 1950's before I was born,
many of them had died. It wasn't until
the spring of 1991 on my property in Manchester,
MI (Irish Hills area) that I had the
opportunity to observe a pair in the front
yard rolling wildflower field. I followed
them with my camera and watched them through
my windows hoping to get a close
up view as they landed on my newly planted
pines or sought to catch an insect on
the daisies. From these memories and
photos, this painting was born.
