The Story of "Against the
Wind"
“Against the Wind” is an ink
drawing I did with a tooth brush, using the rubber tip for detail and the
brush for larger areas. I wanted to use a unique technique I thought
of myself. This Drawing portrays an old fisherman coming in off Austin
Lake from a morning trip foreshortened by a coming storm. The sea
gulls seem to be ushering him in as if to say, “you better hurry, and can
we share your catch?” I drew this picture on location as I lived
on this lake for three years. The numerous storms in the spring make
this a very typical scene. This fisherman was one of the very first people
out on the lake that year. To enhance his solitude and increase the
feel of nature, I purposefully left out the houses that ring the lake and
added the sea gulls often about. -Suzanne |
