
The Redskins started their 14th season with four wins in the first weeks openers. At Onaway on August 20th., the Redskins Freshman 1, 5th and 6th grade team defeated the Onaway Cardinals Freshman team by a score of 20 to 0. In the second game of the day, the Redskins Freshman 2 team beat the Indian River titans 21 to 19 in a come from behind fourth quarter win. The nightcap of the day saw the Redskins Varsity Team, 8th grade defeat the Onaway Cardinals Varsity by a score of 33 to 14. In Gladwin, the Redskins Junior Varsity, 7th grade team beat the Gladwin Giants Jv's by a score of 13 to 7.
The Grayling Redskins joined the S.A.M Youth Football in 1992 when the league was first formed. There were five teams in the beginning, Grayling, Twining, Ogemaw, Standish and Gladwin. The S.A.M. Youth Football League is now composed of teams from central and northern Michigan. The teams are Alpena, Cheboygan, Onaway, Indian River, Rogers City, Grayling, Ogemaw, Standish, Pinconning, Gladwin, Houghton Lake and Oscoda.
The Redskins have six teams in the league, two 3rd & 4th, two 5th & 6th grade teams, a 7th. grade team and an 8th grade team. The home games are played on the Redskins own field located at the Crawford County Fairgrounds.
Pre-season scrimmages were held Saturday, August 13th at Redskins Field. With Grayling, Ogemaw, Gladwin, Pinconning, Oscoda and Houghton Lake participating.
August 27th games. Grayling Freshman 1 vs Cheboygan Freshman 1, Grayling Freshman 2 vs Alpena Jets Freshman 1 and Grayling Varsity vs Cheboygan Varsity at Cheboygan. The Junior Varsity teams travels to Rogers City to take on the Alpena 1 Junior Varsity team.
