Sometimes I am bothered by the idea that the things I make aren't "High Art". They don't make any deep social or political statement. I'm not creating objects to hang on the tall white walls of museums or to reflect in the ponds of corporate atriums. I make things that people wear or put on a shelf or a desktop - little weird whimsical wistful guys that have character - things to keep in your pocket and hold. so then I think that this is just as high an idea as any insider white wall museum type art - I create things to enjoy! Recently my friend and mentor
Bill Brinks passed away. Bill taught me a lot about art but the
best thing he taught me was to have passion and enjoy
(as a verb) life. Live. I make art to make people happy. So,
this is for Bill... |
