"My
Country Road”
“My Country Road” is a soft pastel painting depicting a hilly, sandy-loam
road foreshortened, placing the viewer directly in front of the scene as
if walking down the middle. The leaves have already fallen on this
crisp November day. After viewing a few “country” road paintings
at an art show with pavement, yellow center lines, and obtrusive telephone
poles, I decided to show the people what a true country road really looks
like from my experience growing up in the rural midwest (Manchester, MI,
Irish Hills area). No black top, painted highway lines, etc. --just
trees, sky, dirt, ruts, and bumps to keep the natural speed slow.
An old white mail box on the side is left open, too old to stay closed.
If you watch long enough, you are likely to see sheep crossing, kids barefoot
with fishing poles headed for the lake just up a ways, a coyote in a distant
field, or a horse and rider. -Suzanne |
