The Current Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad
The current LS&I is primarily an ore hauler. Other freight includes
loads and empties of pellets with the Wisconsin Central, as of 1997, when
the WC bought this from the C&NW. There are also shipments of coal
from the upper harbor of Marquette where coal is unloaded for the UP
Generating Company. Coal is used to fire the kilns in the pelletizing
process when its price beats the other sources of fuel. Also there are
shipments to some area businesses in Ishpeming and Negaunee, of which I
do not know anything.
More details to come.
